Forum of Augustus 
This forum was built to celebrate Augustus' victory on the murderers of Julius Caesar; Brutus and Cassius, in 41 BC. The temple in the middle was dedicated to Mars Ultor (the avenger). Half of the forum is still hidden underneath the road you saw in the pic above; the Via dei Fori Imperiali.
