Day 11 (Paradise lost)

On Thursday, we had planned another hike, but as we remembered the trip to Loco too well, and the map told us the road ahead was even narrower and steeper, we decided to change our plans. Sandra simply didn't dare driving up there, and taking the bus again would have been quite expensive and a journey in itself. Instead of that, we decided to go for a swim once more. Boring? Not at all! Paradise is addictive, you know.

We descended once more down the steep path to the river Isorno, like we did on day 9. I wanted to see just how far along we could hike up stream. Since the last time Sandra really caught up on the mountain goat act, so we moved on rather quickly. At one point it seemed we couldn't go any further, as the only way onward was over a very narrow ridge along the river. But as we had stranded on a lovely small 'beach', we decided to stay there, and enjoy the scenery.

There were only a few others further down the stream, but all nude... Thinking of the saying 'when in Rome, do as the Romans', we stripped. So here are some pics... on which you can't see anything :-) not even in the very clear water.

Hey, we even had our own massage bath! (Sorry ladies, no nude pictures of me; Sandra didn't dare taking the camera into the water.)

Sad enough, paradise didn't last very long; a very noisy and very clothed family with three children came to disrupt the silence. So we grabbed our stuff (i.e. our swim suits :o) and moved to a small pebble beach a little further up stream. But also here peace didn't last very long, so we hiked along the narrow ridge along the river, as we'd seen some people climbing over it earlier.

After Sandra had taken an unexpected bath while jumping to a rock (she slipped and nearly gave me a heart attack in doing so), we decided to sit down on a big flat rock. There we spent the rest of a lovely afternoon. Main activities were swimming, reading our books, playing Triominos, gazing into the water and watching the many butterflies flying around there! It's lovely to see them twirling around each other like crazy, it really makes you smile!

That evening, we enjoyed a superb meal in a little restaurant not very far from our hotel. Corinne, with whom we stayed in Solothurn, had recommended it to us. Looking at the menu, we didn't think much of it at first (there were two choices for starters and desert, and none for the main dish). But oh my goodness was the food good!!! (imagine a flock of angels dancing on your tongue). Really a lovely way to end our stay in Cavigliano.
