Day 3 (Traditional Swiss modern art)

We managed to get up reasonably on time and had yet another great breakfast. Man I REALLY love Swiss bread! Picked up the car at the car park (43.50 Swiss Franks for 1.5 days.....) and started our EXPO.02 (external site in German) day by driving to Neuchatel where we were going to see one of the Arteplages (lit: Art-beach, exhibition site). I'd already been to this site during my trip in May, but hadn't seen it all then.

We started by standing in line for the Magie de l'Energie exhibit. Barbara's sister Corinne had tipped us to go and see it. And as it turned out it was well worth the 1:15 hrs we had to stand in line. The center of the exhibit is a room with mirrored walls with a circular stage around which the audience slowly revolves. On the stage a magician was playing with light and water. Very beautiful.

Then we made our way to the Biopolis. A wooden sphere structure of immense proportions, built with the recycled wood used for the Swiss pavilion at the world expo in Hannover, Germany in 2000.

The inside of the building is divided into two floors. The bottom floor has a half sphere suspended from the ceiling onto which images of natural and human made catastrophe's are projected.

The top floor has a half sphere sticking out of the floor, onto which all the beautiful images of the world are projected.

Walking around for a while we just soaked up the sights, looking at all the structures built for the expo at this site.

We decided to make our way to the expo site in Biel. Which was also very nice but not so photogenic. So instead of expo pics, here's one of the evening over Bielersee (Lake Biel).

The crowd in Biel turned out to be even bigger than in Neuchâtel, so we really only saw one pavilion.

At around 7:30 PM we got back to the car and drove the last couple of kilometers to Solothurn, where Corinne welcomed us with a nice pasta dinner.
